Turkish diploma for use abroad
The mirror image of an incoming diploma: apostilled here, then translated into the receiving country's language. What varies is whether that country will accept a translation made in Türkiye at all.
In brief
- Document category
- Eğitim
- Apostille
- Depends on the case
- Validity
- Records a fixed award and does not expire
A diploma awarded by a Turkish institution, needed for study, employment or recognition in another country. The chain runs outward, which reverses everything familiar from an incoming file.
The outward chain
- Obtain the diploma and transcript from the institution
- Apostille them through the Turkish authority
- Translate into the receiving country’s language
- Whatever certification that country requires on the translation
⚠ Will they accept a translation made here?
This is the question that decides the whole exercise. Some countries accept a sworn translation produced in Türkiye and notarised here. Others require a translator authorised in their own system, and a Turkish translation will be refused however well certified.
Ask the receiving institution before commissioning anything. Where they require their own translator, what you send abroad is the apostilled original — and the translation is arranged there.
Which authority apostilles it
University documents are administrative documents, so the provincial governorate or district authority handles them. Confirm what preliminary certification your institution or the higher education authority must add first, since practice differs between institutions.
Send the transcript too
Foreign recognition procedures read the transcript at least as closely as the diploma, and they need the grading scale to interpret it. Ask your institution for a transcript that states the scale, and for a diploma supplement if it issues one.
Turkish characters
⭐ Names and institution names containing Turkish letters need consistent handling abroad. Decide once how your name will appear in the target language and keep every document consistent with it, including the passport spelling.

Order more than one copy
Foreign institutions frequently retain what is submitted. An extra certified set obtained now is far cheaper than repeating the whole chain from another country later — see which documents need an apostille.
Documents from the higher education authority
Some foreign procedures ask not only for the diploma but for confirmation that the awarding institution is recognised in Türkiye. That confirmation comes from the higher education authority rather than from the university, and it is a separate document with its own certification.
Ask the receiving institution whether it needs one before you start, because obtaining it later means repeating the apostille and translation steps for an additional document.
