Interpreter at the notary
Where a party to a notarial act does not speak Turkish, a sworn translator must attend and sign the record. The first question is never the language — it is which notary office, because the oath record works only there.
In brief
- Certification level
- Yeminli tercüman imzası
- Estimated time
- Booked for a specific office, date and time
Some things cannot be sent to us and returned. Where a notarial act involves someone who does not speak Turkish, a sworn translator has to be in the room, interpret the document as it is drawn up, and sign the official record.
When it is required
- Notarised rental contracts
- Powers of attorney drawn up at a Turkish notary
- Signature circulars for foreign directors
- Undertakings and declarations, including a host’s declaration
- Title deed transfers at the land registry
- Marriage ceremonies at a marriage office
⭐ The office decides who can act
A translator’s oath record is valid only at the notary office where it was taken, and land registry directorates apply their own arrangements. A translator without standing at your office cannot sign there, however well qualified.
So give us the office name and the date before anything else. We confirm availability before a booking is made — a translator turned away at the counter costs the appointment slot, not merely an hour.
⚠ A family member cannot substitute
A bilingual spouse, friend or agent is not an alternative. The requirement exists precisely so that the interpreting is independent of the parties, and the record needs a signature the institution will accept.
Read the document beforehand
Interpreting at a counter happens once, at speed, in a room where others are waiting. Where the draft exists in advance, have it translated in writing and read it at home.
The two services are not alternatives: the written translation is for you, the interpreter is for the institution — see rental contract before a notary.
If the date moves
Tell us immediately. Rebooking a person is harder than rescheduling a document, and appointment slots at notaries and registries are not easily recovered.
What the interpreter does not do
Interpreting is not advice. Whether the terms are reasonable, whether the property is sound, whether the authority is wide enough — those are for your lawyer — see interpreter at the land registry.
