Renouncing Turkish citizenship
Release is granted on conditions, and the central one is usually evidence about the other citizenship. That evidence is a foreign document, which is where apostille and translation enter an otherwise Turkish file.

Turkish citizenship can be given up with permission, on conditions set by legislation and applied by the civil registry authority. This is a formal release rather than a declaration you can simply make.
⚠ This is a legal decision, not a documentary one
Giving up a citizenship has consequences for residence, property, inheritance, military service obligations and your children’s position. Take advice before starting, and take it from a lawyer rather than from a translation office.
What we can describe is which documents the file involves and how they are certified.
⭐ The other citizenship is the pivot
Release is generally conditioned on holding, or being certain to acquire, another citizenship — the aim being that nobody is left without one.
So the central foreign document is evidence from the other country: either a certificate of its citizenship, or an assurance that it will be granted. That document is apostilled in the country that issued it and then translated with notarial certification.
⚠ Where it is an assurance rather than a completed grant, it usually carries a validity period. The Turkish file has to move within it, which makes sequencing the hardest part of this procedure.
Turkish-side documents
Identity documents, civil registry records and any documents concerning obligations are Turkish and are not translated.
Children
Where children are included in the application, their position is examined too, and consent from the other parent may be required. A consent signed at a Turkish consulate is valid here directly.
After release
Former citizens who were released with permission may be able to apply for the document preserving certain rights. Keep the release decision itself: it is the document that later file rests on.
Where this fits
What can follow release is described on the Blue Card for former Turkish citizens, and the general certification chain on notarised translation explained.
Property and inheritance afterwards
Release changes your status but does not by itself change what you own. Property held in Türkiye and rights that will one day pass by inheritance are governed by their own rules, and those rules can treat citizens and foreigners differently.
Ask a lawyer what changes for your particular holdings before applying. The documents involved in any later property or inheritance file are unaffected by the release itself, but the rules applied to them may not be.
Order of steps
-
Take legal advice first
Consequences reach residence, property, inheritance and children. This is not a documentary decision.
-
Confirm the conditions with the authority
Release is granted on conditions set by legislation. Establish them before assembling anything.
-
Obtain evidence of the other citizenship
A certificate or an assurance from the other country, apostilled there and translated here.
-
Watch the validity period
An assurance usually expires. The Turkish file has to move within that window.
-
Deal with children explicitly
Their position is examined, and consent from the other parent may be required.
-
Keep the release decision
It is the document any later application by a former citizen rests on.
