Student certificate (öğrenci belgesi)

Issued by a Turkish university, so it is never translated for a Turkish file. It is one of the few documents in a student's permit file that costs nothing at all.

Confirms current enrolment; issued fresh each term in most institutions

A certificate confirming that you are enrolled at a Turkish institution, obtained from the student affairs office or electronically. It is asked for in residence permit files, in bank and transport applications, and in a range of everyday procedures.

⭐ It costs nothing to use here

It is a Turkish document. No translation, no notarisation, no apostille for use inside Türkiye — and students preparing a permit file sometimes budget for translating it without asking whether that is needed.

The translation cost in a student file sits on the documents brought from abroad: income evidence, identity documents and civil status records. See student residence permit.

When translation does arise

When a foreign body asks for proof of enrolment in Türkiye — a scholarship provider, a foreign social security or family benefit authority, a bank abroad, or a family procedure in another country.

Then the chain runs outward: apostille from the Turkish authority, then translation into that country’s language.

⚠ It confirms a present state

The certificate says you are enrolled now. Institutions treat it as recent evidence, and most universities issue it fresh each term precisely for that reason.

Obtain it close to the date it will be submitted rather than keeping one from an earlier term.

What it does not show

Enrolment is not the same as results, and a student certificate says nothing about credits, grades or progression. Where a foreign body asks about academic performance, the transcript is the document — see foreign transcript for how transcripts are handled.

Electronic versions

Most institutions issue this certificate electronically, verified by a code. Whether a foreign authority accepts an electronic printout is a separate question, and where an apostille is required a wet-signed original may be needed instead.

Names

The certificate carries the name held in the university’s records, which came from your identity documents at enrolment. Where that differs from your passport, the difference will follow you through graduation and into your diploma.

After graduation

A student certificate confirms enrolment and stops being available once you graduate. What replaces it is the diploma and, until the diploma is printed, the provisional graduation certificate the institution issues in its place.

Ask for both before you leave the university. Requesting documents from an institution you no longer attend, from another country, is markedly harder than asking at the office on your last visit.
